BUILDING IT RIGHT…
The Community Building Standard has been initiated across Canada by: Labourers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA), Canadian Piping Trades, Teamsters Canada, and the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) to ensure that major products are being built right!
What does 'building it right' mean?
It means ensuring major projects that are delivered across Canada are focused on three core principles:
1. A commitment to safety and quality.
Projects need to be built in accordance ot Occupational and Health Safety Standards to ensure all workers are not put at risk of injury. As well, project need to be constructed to the highest environmental standards so that future generations feel a sense of pride knowing that they are protected from any risk.
2. Investing in trades and apprenticeships.
Public construction projects should be built using certified tradespeople, train apprentices, hire locally and bring indigenous people, youth and women into the construction workforce.
3. Leaving a positive community legacy.
We want work with community service groups, teams, associations and individuals to ensure our work delivers a legacy that makes a long-term difference to each community where we have a presence.
